This course is designed for aspiring creative writers and avid readers. Class time will be predominantly devoted to responding to creative prompts, while homework will focus on independent reading from one of the following books: The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, Moby Dick by Herman Melville, or The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Students will create a portfolio of their creative writing and an essay on the book they have read.

Those who wish to take this course for Advanced credit will design and create a chapbook (a small, self-made book) to include writing done independently.
